September means football season for fans who love the NFL and NCAA, and it also means back to school for millions of college students. In recent years, September has also come to mean that it’s harvest season for the nation’s newest legal cash crops: Cannabis.

It wasn’t that long ago that the only data generated from the annual fall cannabis harvest was that of arrest records published by law enforcement and photo-ops of thousands of cannabis plants seized by the DEA.  This year, Wall Street research analysts will have their eyes glued on the results of this year’s coast-to-coast cannabis harvest like never before, as more and more cannabis and cannabis-related deals are trading on public exchanges for investors to take advantage of what is arguably the fastest growing agricultural sector in the world. Nevada’s Running Out of Legal Weed…Already

A week after Nevada’s legalized marijuana sales began, the state is already facing a shortage of cannabis for adult use.

Measures are now being taken to address what the governor has endorsed as “a state of emergency,” allowing for more marijuana businesses to close the gap in demand.

“Based on reports of adult-use marijuana sales already far exceeding the industry’s expectations at the state’s 47 licensed retail marijuana stores, and the reality that many stores are running out of inventory, the Department must address the lack of distributors immediately. Some establishments report the need for delivery within the next several days,” said department Spokeswoman Stephanie Klapstein.

Find out what steps are being taken to address the shortage here.

Getting Baked: Does Holding in a Hit Make You Higher?

We’ve all been tempted to hold in a marijuana hit for as long as possible, in an effort to get Cheech and Chong-level high on a Saturday night. But does holding in a hit for longer really make your body and mind higher than you otherwise would? It turns out the answer may be no. Maine Becomes 8th State to Legalize Marijuana (RMJ)

As of today, marijuana becomes legal for recreational use in Maine!

Adults 21 years of age and older can now legally possess up to two and a half ounces of marijuana, grow up to six flowering marijuana plants and 12 non-flowering plants, and possess the marijuana harvested from those plants inside their residence. It will remain illegal to use marijuana in public and to drive while impaired by marijuana. The law will not affect employers’ drug-testing policies or their rights to prohibit marijuana use by employees.

The Legislature is also in the process of establishing a regulated system of marijuana cultivation and sales, which is currently scheduled to be up and running by February 1, 2018.

“The era of marijuana prohibition in Maine is finally coming to an end,” said David Boyer, Maine political director for the Marijuana Policy Project, who served as campaign manager for the Yes on 1 campaign. “Responsible adult marijuana consumers will no longer be harassed and treated like criminals. Police will be able to spend more time addressing serious crimes rather than punishing adults for using a substance that is safer than alcohol.”

Congrats to the citizens of Maine for this next step forward in legalization!

Proposed Initiative in Colorado Would Limit THC Levels

New initiative likened to removing all but Mike’s Hard Lemonade’s from liquor stores.

A proposed initiative in Colorado would limit the amount of THC in all cannabis products and destroy the new market for legal recreational marijuana. The initiative would limit all cannabis products to just 16 percent. This amount is below today’s average THC content (Which some sources to say to be 18.7 percent) and far below some products 25-35 percent THC range. Yikes! Careful what you post. Police in states where marijuana is recreationally legal (Alaska, Colorado, Washington and Oregon) are turning to social media to bust non-state operations.
