A Greener Green: Interview with Honest Marijuana’s Anthony Franciosi

Eco-conscious living is important.

Those wishing to eat local, source organic products and lower the environmental impact of their food have lots of options these days, but those wishing to source their marijuana with the same conscious mindset have a harder time finding a reliable product. Honest Marijuana in Colorado is one company paving the way for providing a greener green. We chatted with Anthony Franciosi from Honest Marijuana about how they are taking a more environmental approach to cannabis; read on to see what he had to say.

How / Why did you get into the cannabis industry?

I got into the industry through the medical program when I started growing my own medical marijuana. After spending a number of years learning how to grow organically and doing large scale landscape projects professionally, I was able to find the right partners to help make Honest Marijuana a reality.

What sets Honest Marijuana apart from its competitors?

On the cultivation side, we use the highest quality plant-based nutrients and utilize living soil to bring out the most distinct expressions from our cultivars.

What are some of your key sustainable practices use to grow cannabis?

We use all-natural inputs that don’t pollute our water system with harmful chemicals like EDTA, and utilize the most efficient lighting and environmental control systems on the market today. We utilize our cold weather in Northern Colorado to cool our cultivation facility with outside air through technology that allows us to do so while maintaining a closed system.

How can a marijuana consumer find out which products and companies have a low environmental impact?

I think by doing research like you would for any other brand. Look for companies who advocate for clean organic marijuana and have good recyclable packaging.

 

What should eco-minded marijuana users ask for when they are at pot shops?

Ask if the products you see were grown organically or derived from plants organically grown.

How do you ensure that your products are the best they can be?

We have scoured the earth looking for the best technology and know-how from every industry to add to our process and help bring our customers the highest quality throughout the entire product line.

What do you like most about cannabis?

I like that it has such a wide range of remedies and is 100% natural when grown correctly.

What would you say is the best way to consume cannabis?

I’m not sure of the best way, but I prefer a joint.

Do you prefer Sativas or Indicas?

I prefer marijuana that has a nice taste and energetic high. Hard to say how to classify sativa vs indica anymore with so many hybrids on the market. Seems like you are relying on a budtenders personal experience or the breeders suggestions but is hard to quantify. The genetic fingerprint or chemotype of a strain will be how we look at the “sativa / indica” debate in the near future.

How has marijuana helped define who you are?

To quote the great Bob Marley, “When you smoke the herb it reveals your true self.”

What strains do you grow?

I try to focus on mixing a good number of classics along with the latest and greatest. An example of both would be Sour Diesel from the classics and Gorilla Glue #4 which is soon to be a classic that many people enjoy.

Where can people find your products?

Our products will be rolling out throughout Colorado this fall.

What are you working on next?

Keep an eye out for Honest L’s. Honest L’s are the world’s first non-tobacco pre-rolled blunt experience that are going to be available in Colorado this fall, as well as our other products.
