Are you all up on those legal marijuana edibles? Instead of having to make your own at home, pot shops in MJ legal states are now brimming with candies, gummies, drinks and cookies of all colors, flavors, shapes and sizes. It’s like being a kid in a 21+ candy store.
To learn more about this awesome new industry, we spoke with Nancy Whiteman, Co-Founder and Owner of Wana Brands, a leading company in the cannabis infused products industry in quality, consistency and potency. They sell a product line that includes Wana Edibles, Wana Extracts and Wana Medicinals. Read on for what Nancy had to say about the legal cannabis industry, her favorite way to consume cannabis and her thoughts on the future.
What do you like most about cannabis?
I really get excited about the range of benefits it offers—from making life better for people with medical problems to making life more enjoyable for recreational users. Our motto is “Enhance Your Life” and we really believe that cannabis does just that. Also, I love that it is a plant and that our bodies are designed to take advantage of its benefits through the endocannabinoid system.
What sets Wana Brands apart from its competitors?
We have amazing products and a passion for quality and consistency. For example, our team includes a PhD food chemist and a director of operations who is helping us bring our company up to federal standards of manufacturing and quality. Also, not to toot our own horn too much, we bend over backwards to make our customers happy and have a strong reputation for great service and integrity.
How did you get into the cannabis industry?
Initially it just looked like a really interesting business opportunity. I love a new challenge and steep learning curve. But the deeper I get into the industry, the more committed and passionate I feel about it. I’ve never had a business experience before where people regularly make a point of contacting us to tell us how much they love our products and how much they have helped them.
Have you noticed any difference in the products people want or culture of marijuana between the different states you are in?
[It’s] too early for us to tell!
How do you ensure that your products are the best they can be?
Internal quality control processes, external third party verification through lab testing, and feedback from end customers and dispensaries.
What have been your biggest successes with the new cannabis industry?
Our gummies are one of the most (if not the most) popular edibles in Colorado and probably in the entire country. We literally can’t keep up with demand. Also I’m really proud of our WanaCaps XR, the world’s first extended release capsules that lasts up to 12 hours.
Do you have any advice for novice stoners?
Start low and go slow! Edibles are very potent and the best way to have a good experience is to start with a low dose—no more than 10 mg and even less for some people, and then wait at least an hour and a half to evaluate how you feel before consuming more.
What is your favorite of Wana Brands’ products?
That’s a tough one! Like everyone, I love our gummies but I also have a soft spot for our caramels which are incredibly delicious.
What would you say is the best way to consume cannabis?
It depends on the individual and what they like but I do think edibles are a great choice for people who don’t want to smoke and who are looking for something discrete yet long lasting.
Do you prefer Sativas or Indicas?
Indica. I’m already hyper enough.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
Just that we’re looking forward to introducing the Wana Brand to the rest of the MJ legal states!
