Recreational Marijuana on the Ballot in Ohio

Citizens of Ohio will vote on November 3rd on Issue 3, The Marijuana Legalization Amendment. If the amendment passes, people in Ohio over the age of 21 will be legally able to purchase, consume, and grow marijuana in the privacy of their own homes.

Home growers would have to purchase a $50 license to cultivate the sweet and sticky wonder plant. Once obtained, licensees will be able to grow up to four plants. The amendment will allow for 10 commercial growers with the ability to add more if the 10 can’t meet the demands of the consumers.

Ohio’s proposed laws would be similar to other states in that consumption of marijuana may only be done in one’s home or in specifically designated areas. Issue 3 will also put higher punishments on those distributing marijuana to minors.

Recent polls have shown an even divide between supporters and nay-sayers of Issue 3. One poll found that 44% of people supported Issue 3 with 43% opposing it. Another poll found an exact split of 46% to 46%.

Do you think Ohio will be next to legalize recreational marijuana in the U.S.? What problems do you see with Issue 3? Toke on, talk up, and let us know what you come up with!
